How Much Does a Website Cost? Quality vs. Quantity

How much does a website cost in Croatia and the EU – Red Sun

Why does the range go from €300 to over €10,000?

If you have ever asked “how much does a website cost?”, you already know what the answers look like: one studio quotes €300, another €3,000, and a third wants a meeting before naming any figure at all. It looks as if someone is lying. Nobody is – they simply aren’t selling the same thing.

In Croatia, website prices in 2026 range from roughly €150 for the simplest solutions to over €10,000 for large, complex projects. The split by provider is even clearer: freelancers usually charge between €150 and €2,000, smaller agencies between €1,000 and €5,000, and large agencies from €5,000 upwards. In Germany, Austria or the Netherlands, comparable work tends to cost noticeably more – one reason more EU clients now work with studios in Croatia.

For a tradesperson who needs a decent online presence, the lower end is realistic. For a company that expects its website to bring in enquiries, it isn’t – and that is where the real conversation begins.

What you don’t see in a €300 quote

This is the most expensive sentence in the whole article, so read it slowly: a €300 website and a €3,000 website look the same at first glance. The difference lies in what you can’t see – speed, security, technical soundness and whether Google will show you to potential clients at all.

A cheap website is rarely badly designed. It is badly built. A flawed URL structure set up during development cannot be changed later without redirects and losing part of the visibility you have built – which means every future SEO effort starts in the red, and you paid for that deficit in advance.

Then comes everything the quote didn’t mention. Hosting at €60 to €360 a year, maintenance at €600 to €2,400 a year, content changes at €30 to €80 each, and SEO optimisation after the fact from €200 a month upwards. Changing a phone number – €50. A new blog post – call the agency. You saved on the build and bought a subscription to your own helplessness.

How much does a website cost – and what goes into the price

A website isn’t just a matter of putting content online. It is six separate crafts that have to work together:

Design that doesn’t just look good but guides visitors where you want them to go. Structure and user experience – because the path from the home page to an enquiry should take two clicks at most. SEO and GEO optimisation built into the foundations rather than bolted on afterwards, for Google and for the AI search engines that increasingly answer in its place. Copywriting that speaks your clients’ language, because the best design can’t rescue text nobody reads. A content management system that lets you publish news yourself, without help, in five minutes. And maintenance – security patches, backups, speed – because a website without servicing is a car without servicing.

Leave out any one of these six and you get a cheaper quote. Not a cheaper website – an incomplete one.

Why some websites cost over €10,000

Because that figure covers far more than the build. It includes market and competitor research, a keyword strategy, completely original design without a single template, copy written from scratch, integrations with a CRM or booking system, conversion tracking and optimisation after launch. That is no longer a website. It is a sales channel that works 24 hours a day and never asks for a salary.

That is why the question should never be “how much does a website cost?” but “what does this website need to achieve for me?” If it brings you one client a month, it pays for itself faster than you think. If it brings none, even €300 was too much.
